Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) acknowledged pacing mistakes in his time trial performance on stage 4 of the 2025 Critérium du Dauphiné, as he continues his preparation for the Tour de France.
"I didn't do the perfect TT today," Pogačar said. "I think I probably got the pacing slightly wrong. I started out on the first section a bit too conservative and should have pushed a bit more there."
The Slovenian star remains positive despite his the critical evaluation, viewing the race as a valuable learning opportunity ahead of cycling's biggest event.
"But it's okay - that's why we are here, to tune-up before the Tour and improve," he added.
With several challenging days of racing still ahead, Pogačar appears focused on the bigger picture rather than dwelling on today's performance. His comments suggest he's using this competition primarily as preparation for the Tour de France.
"There are still three big stages to come here and I'm looking forward to it. The team is working well and with the rivals we have here, it's the best place to test ourselves," Pogačar said.
The time trial serves as an important benchmark for Pogačar, who will face strong competition from key rivals Jonas Vingegaard (Visma | Lease a Bike) and Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step) among others, when the Tour de France begins in July.
