'The team is my second baby' - Madiot steps aside from FDJ after 29 years
Marc Madiot has announced that he is stepping down from his role as general manager of Groupama-FDJ United in a joint interview with French outlets AFP and L'Equipe.

Marc Madiot has announced he is stepping down from his role as the general manager of Groupama-FDJ, the team he founded in 1997 as La Française des Jeux. "It was time to recharge, open new doors, and move forward. I'll be 67 in April. I think it's time to look to the future. Now is the time," he said.
The transfer of power will be made official in April, with Thierry Cornec set to step into the role. "Marc will continue to be involved in development with the partners and will also be the guarantor of the team's values," said Cornec regarding whether or not Marc Madiot would still be involved within the domain of the team.
“My ambition is for the team to outlive me," said Madiot. "If I can lend a hand in areas other than the sporting side, that suits me just fine. The team is my second child. I love it, I still want to cherish it, but I know it’s growing up and that it’s reached adulthood, that it needs to spread its wings."
Madiot is the latest long-standing team manager to step aside. Patrick Lefevere retired from his at Soudal Quick-Step last year, and he was replaced by Jurgen Foré, while Jean-René Bernaudeau of TotalEnergies has also decided to retire in 2025.
