Tim Wellens abandons Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne after heavy crash
The Belgian champion was among a number of fallers with 110km of the race remaining. Sean Christian (Modern Adventure) abandoned after he came down at the same time.

Tim Wellens has been forced to abandon Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne after crashing heavily with 110km remaining.
The UAE Team Emirates-XRG rider was among a number of fallers in the incident as the pace ratcheted up on the approach to the hill zone around the midpoint of the race.
Wellens crashed into a ditch on the roadside, and although he was immediately back on his feet, it was clear that he was in some pain.
The Belgian champion clambered up the verge, but he flung away his helmet in distress, and he was walking gingerly and clutching his collarbone. His abandon from the race was confirmed shortly afterwards.
The full extent of Wellens’ injuries has yet to be confirmed, and it remains to be seen what impact they will have on the remainder of his Classics campaign.
Wellens enjoyed a fine start to 2026 with victory at the Clásica Jaén, and he was set to play a key supporting role for Tadej Pogacar at Milan-San Remo, on the cobbles and in the Ardennes.
