The Olympic mountain bike champion showcases elite descending skills in a jaw-dropping Red Bull video.
Tom Pidcock (Q36.5) illustrated his extraordinary descending abilities in a new Red Bull video, reaching speeds of 95kph while bombing down Rossfeld Panorama, a mountain pass on the Austria-Germany border.
The video captures the Olympic mountain bike champion fearlessly navigating the winding 6km descent, generating over 800 watts of power while riding out of the saddle. Dakar Rally champion Matthias Walkner filmed the high-speed run from a nearby motorbike, audibly laughing at Pidcock's blistering pace in the footage.
During the descent, Pidcock adopted the 'supertuck' position - a technique banned by the UCI in races but permitted during practice - where he lowered his body onto the bike's top tube to maximise aerodynamics. The British rider descended over 500 meters in just five minutes before executing a dramatic skidding stop.
Pidcock's exceptional downhill skills gained widespread attention during his Tour de France debut in 2022, where he won a stage on Alpe d'Huez after a demonstration on the descent of the Col du Galibier.
"Going on the drops lowers your centre of gravity. As you approach a corner, straighten your outside leg, push the pedal down, and lean your weight on the inside of your handlebars to guide the bike," Pidcock explained when speaking to GCN last year.
After the high-speed run, Walkner towed Pidcock back up the hill using a rope for another attempt.
