Tour Today: Stage 15 - A transition day for the breakaway?
With one more stage until the second rest day, Tadej Pogacar continues to lead the Tour with comfort, but will the breakaway be granted an opportunity on this hilly stage to Carcassonne? Catch up with anything you might have missed and get all the details of what's coming up today in Domestique's daily guide.

Tour de France stage 15 profile
This is a typical transition stage in the second week of the Tour de France, and takes place in the Occitanie region in the Southwest.
There are three categorised climbs on the menu, with the hardest, a category two test to Pas du Sant (2.9km at 10.2%), coming over 50 kilometres from the finish.
However, the road continues to climb for around 10 kilometres after the recognised summit of the Pas du Sant. A gradual descent follows before a flat finish into Carcassonne.

What to expect?
On paper, it’s a stage primed for a breakaway with plenty of climbing, but no major mountains that will swing things in favour of the pure climbers and the summit of the final climb comes with 52 kilometres remaining.
Therefore, a large variety of riders will fancy their chances on this type of stage, and we could see a major battle for the breakaway.
However, Jasper Philipsen was the last Tour stage winner in Carcassonne back in 2022 on stage 15, having survived the hills on a route very similar to Sunday's, and although the Belgian is out of the race, if a fast finisher can survive the climbing and have their team keep the breakaway in check, there could be a chance of winning from a reduced sprint.
