Two spectators killed after vehicle veers off road at Tour du Rwanda
The tragedy occurred during stage 1 of the race from Rukomo to Rwamagana. The race organisation has indicated that six more people were injured in the same incident.

Two spectators were killed during stage 1 of the Tour du Rwanda on Sunday after a vehicle from the race caravan veered off the road and into the crowd. Six more people were injured in the same incident.
The race organisation confirmed the tragedy in a statement after the end of stage 1 in Rwamagana.
“The Management of the Tour du Rwanda regrets to inform the public of an accident that occurred today during Stage 1 in the Gabiro area, where a caravan vehicle veered off the road and hit several spectators,” read the statement.
“Sadly, two people lost their lives and six others were injured. The injured are receiving care, and we are closely following their condition. The Rwanda National Police has launched investigations into the cause."
“We extend our sincere condolences to the families affected and remain committed to public safety.”
Stage 1 of the Tour du Rwanda brought the peloton from Rukomo to Rwamagana, where Itamar Einhorn (NSN) claimed victory.
