Unibet Rose Rockets laugh off bus detail at Giro d’Italia start

Unibet Rose Rockets arrived at the Giro d’Italia with plenty of attention on their Grand Tour debut, but it was not only the riders drawing eyes at the start of the opening stage in Nessebar.

As the sun came out in Bulgaria, a small detail on the team bus became impossible to miss. The awnings attached to the vehicle still carried the branding of SD Worx-Protime, suggesting the bus had previously been used elsewhere before joining the Rose Rockets setup.

The team quickly turned the situation into a joke online. “Worked so hard before the Giro d'Italiathat we forgot to fix one thing. 🙈" they wrote, sharing images of the bus with the old awnings still visible.

According to the team, after being asked about the situation by WielerFlits, the mix up was not quite as accidental as it looked. New awnings had been ordered, but were not delivered in time for the start of the Giro. Rather than ignore the obvious, the team decided to address it themselves with a bit of self deprecating humour.

For a team making its race debut, it was an amusing sideshow before the serious work began. The focus will soon shift back to the road, where Unibet Rose Rockets begin their Giro campaign with sprint leader Dylan Groenewegen among their key names for the opening stage.
