Ronan Augé (Unibet Rose Rockets) has been placed into a medically induced coma following a crash on stage 6 of the Tour of Langkawi.

Unibet Rose Rockets have confirmed in a statement that the 22-year-old Frenchman “sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital, where he will be kept in a medically induced coma to optimise his treatment.”

The team also added that “thankfully, Ronan’s condition is currently stable and not life-threatening.”

The incident occurred during stage 6 of the 30th edition of the Tour of Langkawi in Malaysia on Friday, which was ultimately won in a bunch sprint by Canadian Riley Pickrell (Modern Adventure).

With two stages remaining, stage 2 winner Lennart Jasch (Tudor) is currently leading the GC by 26 seconds over soon-to-be UAE Team Emirates-XRG rider Abel Balderstone (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA).

Before his crash, Augé had finished fourth on stages 1 and 3, both in bunch sprints.

The 22-year-old Frenchman is a former product of the Groupama-FDJ United development team, who moved to CIC-U-Nantes in 2025, before earning his move to the Rockets.

This season has seen Augé claim his first professional victory on stage 2 of the Route d’Occitanie-CIC after the initial winner, Noa Isidore (Decathlon CMA CGM), was relegated for an irregular sprint in the uphill rise to the finish.

Augé is also the son of fellow former professional Stéphane Augé, who won the Four Days of Dunkirk in 2008.

Stéphane started the Tour de France eight times from 2002 to 2010, wearing the polka-dot jersey on two occasions, before becoming a Sports Director at Cofidis from 2011 to 2016.

“Our thoughts are with Ronan and his family, and we are in close contact with the medical team in Malaysia. We’re all behind you Ronan,” concluded the Unibet Rose Rockets statement.
