Unstoppable Tadej Pogacar on track to break every Monument record imaginable
There is no doubt that Tadej Pogacar is a unique rider and the best of his generation. With his victory at the Tour of Flanders and Paris Roubaix looming on the horizon, he now has the chance to break records that even Eddy Merckx could not match.

There is almost too much to unpack when it comes to the records. So where do you even begin? Let’s start with the Tour of Flanders.
With his latest victory, Tadej PogaÄŤar has joined an elite group of riders who have won the race three times. He now has three victories to his name (2023, 2025, 2026), placing him alongside Achiel Buysse (1940, 1941, 1943), Fiorenzo Magni (1949, 1950, 1951), the only rider to win three in a row, Eric Leman (1970, 1972, 1973), Johan Museeuw (1993, 1995, 1998), Tom Boonen (2005, 2006, 2012), Fabian Cancellara (2010, 2013, 2014) and Mathieu van der Poel.
Next up: the number of Monument victories in a row. With his win at the Tour of Flanders, Tadej Pogačar has now claimed four Monuments consecutively: Liège-Bastogne-Liège and Il Lombardia in 2025, followed by Milan Sanremo last month and now the Tour of Flanders. A feat no rider has ever achieved in the history of the sport.
And what if he goes even further? What if the Slovenian crosses the line first in the Roubaix Velodrome? That would unlock an entirely new set of records. His current streak of four would extend to five, and he would also complete the full set of Monuments, with Paris-Roubaix the only one still missing from his palmarès.
He already attempted it last year, but came up against a stronger Mathieu van der Poel.
If PogaÄŤar manages to pull it off, he would join the company of, unsurprisingly, Eddy Merckx, as well as Roger De Vlaeminck and Rik Van Looy. It would also make him the first non-Belgian rider to achieve this feat, and the first to win all Monuments consecutively.
With Liège-Bastogne-Liège and Il Lombardia still to come in 2026, it is far from unrealistic that Pogačar could achieve the unique milestone of winning all five Monuments in a single year. That said, riders like Remco Evenepoel remain major contenders in those races. Should he continue his run, Pogačar could extend his streak to seven Monument victories in a row, edging closer to what long seemed an untouchable record: the most Monument wins in history.
Following his victory in Flanders, Pogačar now sits second on the all time list behind Merckx, who holds 19 Monument victories, and has moved ahead of De Vlaeminck, who has 11. If Paris-Roubaix, Liège-Bastogne-Liège and Il Lombardia were also to go his way, he would finish 2026 with 15 Monument wins, bringing Merckx’s record firmly into view.
Given his current dominance, it is no longer far-fetched to suggest that the debate around the GOAT (greatest of all time) could be settled as early as 2027 or 2028.
