Vingegaard dismisses media reaction to widely discussed Tour de France interview - ‘You’re wasting your time’
Jonas Vingegaard has defended his wife Trine’s widely discussed pre-Tour de France interview, telling Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet that media coverage of her comments was exaggerated and unimportant.

"I know that she supports me 100 percent and she will do everything to help me perform at 100 percent. She only wants the best for me," said the two-time Tour champion when asked about the interview that had caused tension within his team.
Before this year's Tour, Trine Vingegaard suggested in an interview that Visma | Lease a Bike should focus exclusively on her husband's interests rather than supporting other riders. This was widely interpreted as criticism of Wout van Aert, who had been instrumental in Vingegaard's previous Tour victories.
Van Aert publicly expressed regret about the comments during the race, which did not go unnoticed and made the interview the talking point of the day once again.
In that same interview, Trine also stated that she thought her husband spent too much time away from home at training camps. Vingegaard remains firmly supportive of his wife while acknowledging the challenging schedule of a professional cyclist.
"Of course there are many training camps and altitude stages throughout the year, so it's hard for family life. But I'm still cycling and I haven't had a burnout," he explained. "The media have given it a spin, but that's apparently what they do. You're wasting your time on something unimportant."
The Danish rider showed no remorse about the publication timing of his wife's interview, which came just as the team was preparing for cycling's biggest race.
"It wasn't the most suitable moment, but I'm good at putting things aside and not thinking too much about them. As long as I know it doesn't affect our team, I can let it go and I have no problem with it at all," Vingegaard said.
Despite performing strongly in the 2025 Tour de France, Vingegaard ultimately finished behind Tadej Pogačar, struggling particularly in the individual time trial and the first mountain stage to Hautacam.
