Vingegaard's traffic chaos: Pink jersey stuck for 75 minutes before Giro's Rome finale

A 131km stage around the streets of Rome is all that stands between Jonas Vingegaard and Giro d’Italia glory on debut. Though according to a report by Tuttobici, the start to the final day of the Giro wasn't totally smooth sailing for the Dane and multiple other riders and staff members.

According to tuttobiciweb.it, a number of teams were held up on the Grande Raccordo Anulare ring road outside Rome while en route to the start of the final stage.

Jonas Vingegaard’s Visma | Lease a Bike, Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe, and Polti VisitMalta were among the teams reportedly held up for an hour and 15 minutes due to traffic police blocking the roads.

Eventually, the situation was resolved, and the teams were able to reach the start ahead of the final circuit stage in Rome, where there will be a celebration for most, and one last battle for the sprinters.

Vingegaard will roll through the streets of Rome alongside his Visma teammates, sporting a special jersey which commemorates the fact that he will become just the eighth rider to win all three Grand Tours.

The Dane will be joined on the final podium by Felix Gall (Decathlon CMA CGM) as well as 2022 champion Jai Hindley (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe).

Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek) leads the mountains classification, while Afonso Eulálio (Bahrain-Victorious) will claim the youth classification after being one of the stars of the 2026 edition.

Meanwhile, Paul Magnier (Soudal Quick-Step) won't be in full celebration mode yet in terms of securing the points classification, as he has an opportunity to win a fourth stage to add to his maglia ciclamino.

The Frenchman will face stiff competition, including from Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek), who will be very motivated to finally land a stage win in this edition.
