Vollering signs 'unique' new contract before chasing history at Giro d'Italia Women
Demi Vollering is seeking to complete a full set of Grand Tour victories at the Giro d'Italia Women, which starts in Cesenatico on Saturday. On the eve of the race, the Dutchwoman confirmed that she will remain with FDJ United-Suez until the end of 2028.

Demi Vollering begins her Giro d’Italia Women challenge on Saturday after confirming that she has signed a contract extension with FDJ United-Suez that will keep her with the team until the end of the 2028 season. The Dutchwoman’s current deal had been due to expire at the end of the current campaign.
“We added provisions that aren’t typically included in cycling contracts to create a unique agreement, because she is a unique athlete,” FDJ United-Suez manager Stephen Delcourt told L’Équipe of the deal.
Vollering joined FDJ United-Suez at the start of last season after a fractious departure from SD Worx-Protime. She won La Vuelta Femenina, Strade Bianche and the European Championships road race in her debut season with the team, when she also placed second overall at the Tour de France Femmes.
So far this season, Vollering has been in sparkling form, winning the Tour of Flanders, Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, Flèche Wallonne and Liège-Bastogne-Liège.
“Over the last year and a half I have been part of an environment where everybody can truly grow – not just as an athlete, but also as a person – and I am very proud of that,” Vollering said in a statement released by her team. “This environment has become home.”
Vollering chasing history in the Giro
The 29-year-old is lining up at Giro d’Italia Women for the first time since 2021, and she is seeking to become the second female rider after Annemiek van Vleuten to win all three Grand Tours. Vollering previously won the Tour de France Femmes in 2023 and La Vuelta Femenina in 2024 and 2025.
“For me, everything starts with a dream. And right now, that dream feels bigger than ever,” Vollering said.
Vollering lines up as the favourite for the Giro d’Italia Women, which sets out from Cesenatico on Saturday, though she is expected to face stiff opposition from Elisa Longo Borghini (UAE Team ADQ). The nine-day race features a pivotal uphill time trial to Nevegal on stage 4 as well as a tough leg over the Colle delle Finestre to Sestriere on the penultimate stage.
