Vuelta Femenina move completes Grand Tour calendar shift in women’s cycling

The Vuelta España Femenina will move from May to October in 2027, taking place from October 3 to 10, one week after the men's Vuelta a España finishes on September 26.

The switch is part of a broader reshaping of the Women's WorldTour calendar.

The Giro d'Italia Women was already moved in 2026 from its previous July slot, where it had overlapped with the men's Tour de France, to a position around the end of the men's Giro. The Tour de France Femmes has also been held at the end of or directly after the men's Tour for several years.

With the Vuelta Femenina now moving to October, all three major women's stage races will be positioned immediately after or around their men's counterparts in 2027, while the switch also gives the Women's WorldTour a stronger focal point later in the season, a period with fewer high profile races on the calendar.

The change was confirmed by the Professional Cycling Council during its meeting at UCI headquarters in Aigle on September 1 and 2, with the decisions still requiring final approval from the UCI Management Committee later this month in Montréal.

The Vuelta's move has also prompted another change in Spain. The organiser of the Vuelta a Burgos Feminas requested new dates after the Vuelta Femenina left its May slot, with the race now scheduled to take place from May 6 to 10 in 2027.

There is also a change to the men's WorldTour calendar. Eschborn Frankfurt will return to its traditional May 1 slot in 2027 at the request of the organiser. 

The German classic, formerly known as Rund um den Henninger Turm, has long been tied to the Labour Day public holiday, with both the professional race and its mass participation events traditionally taking place on that date.
