What are the safety zone distances for the 2026 Giro d'Italia?
Here is a look at the safety zone distances for the 21 stages of the 2026 Giro d'Italia.

What is the safety zone?
The safety zone marks a specific distance before the finish line where the riders are protected from losing time in the GC. This is implemented to reduce the levels of risk-taking during high-pressure situations such as bunch sprints.
If there is a crash or a mechanical issue for a rider within this zone, the rider/s involved will be awarded the same time as the group that they were in during the incident. Traditionally, the safety zone is 3km in length.
For the 2026 edition, the safety zone has been extended to 5km for multiple stages, while some stages such as the mountain finishes do not have a safety zone.
