Biography of pro cyclist Marlen Reusser

Marlen Reusser is one of the most powerful riders in the current peloton. A latecomer to the sport, the Swiss rider has become a world-class time trialist and key force in team time trials, stage races and classics. With European and World Championship medals and multiple Tour de France stage wins, she is a leader at SD Worx and a respected voice in the peloton.

Early life and rise

Born in 1991 in Jegenstorf, Switzerland, Reusser only began serious cycling in her mid-20s after training as a medical doctor. She started with local races and quickly rose through the ranks, winning the Swiss national time trial title in 2017, just two years into her cycling career. Her background in medicine and focus on discipline gave her a unique mindset in the sport.

Breakthrough performances

In 2020, she won silver at the World Championships ITT and signed with Alé BTC Ljubljana. In 2021, she joined SD Worx and won the European Championship time trial and a stage at the Tour de Suisse. She also won a stage at the inaugural Tour de France Femmes in 2022.

Style and strengths

She is one of the world’s best time trialists, with long sustained power and discipline. Her physical strength also makes her a threat in rolling terrain and breakaways. In recent seasons, she has improved her climbing, and since joining Movistar in 2025, she is regarded as one of the key contenders for the Grand Tours.

Personal life and character

Reusser still holds a medical degree and is passionate about mental health, science and equality in sport. She lives in Bern, is known for her analytical approach, and often speaks out on women’s rights and athlete health. She’s seen as one of the sport’s most thoughtful and articulate riders.
