Biography of pro cyclist Michael Storer
Michael Storer is a climber who races on the front foot. Strong in the high mountains and willing to attack from distance, he has turned himself from a promising domestique into a genuine leader capable of winning Grand Tour stages and short stage races outright.
His career has tracked the growth of the teams around him, and at Tudor Pro Cycling he has become a cornerstone rider being the team's top points-scorer and a central figure in their push for Grand Tour success.
Early life and rise
Storer grew up in Perth, in Western Australia, and rose through the Australian development system before moving to Europe. He turned professional at just 20 with Team Sunweb (later Team DSM), one of the strongest development environments in the sport, where he learned his trade as a mountain domestique and stage-race rider.
That apprenticeship in the high mountains laid the foundation for the aggressive, breakaway-oriented climber he would become.
Storer's breakthrough came at the 2021 Vuelta a España, riding for Team DSM. On stage 7 he attacked from the breakaway and rode clear on the steep final climb to the Balcón de Alicante for his first Grand Tour stage win. Days later, on stage 10, he repeated the feat with another solo victory from the break. Two mountain stage wins in a single Vuelta marked him out as one of the most dangerous climbers in any breakaway.
A leader at Tudor: 2025 and beyond
After moving to Tudor Pro Cycling, Storer established himself as the team's standout performer. In 2025 he won a stage at Paris-Nice, took the overall classification at the Tour of the Alps, finished tenth at the Giro d'Italia, came close to stage wins at the Tour de France, and rounded out the season with third place at Il Lombardia, one of cycling's five Monuments. He scored more ranking points than any other Tudor rider that year — a tally that helped the Swiss team secure automatic invitations to the 2026 WorldTour races. For 2026 he shared Tudor's Giro d'Italia leadership and achieved an improvement on his back-to-back tenth places by finishing seventh overall.
Rider profile: strengths, style, and characteristics
Storer is a pure climber with an aggressive, attacking style. He thrives on long, hard mountain stages and is most dangerous from the breakaway, where his ability to ride clear on steep final climbs has delivered his biggest wins. He has also developed into a capable general-classification rider in week-long stage races, combining climbing strength with growing consistency. Time-trialling against the very best remains the area where he must keep improving to challenge for Grand Tour GC podiums.
Personal life
A Western Australian who made the early move to Europe to chase his cycling ambitions, Storer is regarded as a hard-working professional who isn't afraid to say it as he sees it. His third place at Il Lombardia and his consistency across the 2025 season underlined a rider quietly entering the strongest years of his career.
