Biography of pro cyclist Quinn Simmons
Quinn Simmons is an attacking, all-action racer who has become a fan favourite for his willingness to take the race on. Strong on the cobbles, in the hills and over long breakaways, he is exactly the kind of rider who lights up a race rather than waiting for the finish.
He matters as one of the leading figures in American men's road cycling, a flag-bearer for the sport in the United States and a genuine threat in the hardest one-day races and stages.
Early life and rise in the United States
Simmons grew up in Durango, Colorado, a mountain town with a strong endurance-sports culture. He developed quickly as a junior, winning the 2018 US junior national road race and time trial titles before claiming the biggest result of his young career in 2019: the Junior World Road Race Championship. That rainbow jersey announced him as one of the most promising talents of his age group and earned him an early move into the WorldTour with Trek-Segafredo, the team that became Lidl-Trek.
Turning promise into pro wins
Simmons took his first professional victory on stage 3 of the 2021 Tour de Wallonie, holding the leader's jersey to win the overall, an early sign of his ability to win from the front. He has since become a regular animator of Classics and stage races, mixing aggressive breakaways with consistent results. In 2025 he enjoyed one of his strongest seasons, winning a stage of the Volta a Catalunya, taking the US national road race championship and finishing third at the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal, which he described as one of the hardest days of his career.
Rider profile: strengths, style, and characteristics
Simmons is a powerful, aggressive all-rounder who thrives on hard, attritional racing. He has the strength for the cobbled Classics, the punch for hilly finishes and the engine for long-range breakaways, and he races with a refusal to sit in that has made him a crowd favourite. He is also an outspoken advocate for a more entertaining, attacking style of racing.
Personal life
Known in the peloton as "Captain America", Simmons is one of the more colourful and outspoken characters in the sport, never shy about sharing his views on how racing should be raced, among other things. Immediately after the 2025 Tour de France, he proposed to his girlfriend on the Champs-Élysées in Paris.
