Tour de France king of the mountain winners: full list (1933–2025)
The Tour de France's king of the mountains (KOM) classification – signified by the famous polka dot jersey – is a prestigious award given to the race’s best climber each year. This page presents an overview of all winners of this classification.
The all-time record for individual wins in the mountains classification belongs to Richard Virenque of France, who claimed the polka dot jersey seven times. That puts him ahead of legendary climbers Federico Bahamontes (Spain) and Lucien Van Impe (Belgium), who each won the title six times.
On the national level, France dominates with 23 KOM titles – more than any other country. Spain ranks second with 18, followed by Italy with 13 and Belgium with 11.
