The first Tour of Denmark was held in August 1985 under the name Bikuben Danmark Rundt. The race covered more than 1,000 kilometres and was won by Italian rider Moreno Argentin ahead of Kim Andersen and Etienne De Wilde.
How did the PostNord Tour of Denmark come into existence?
The race was established by the Danish Cycling Union in 1985 as Denmark’s national professional stage race. It was initially known as Bikuben Danmark Rundt and was held annually until 1988.
After a six year absence, the race returned in 1995 with Post Danmark as its title sponsor. It later became the PostNord Tour of Denmark and has developed into one of the the country’s largest professional cycling races.
