Visma | Lease a Bike rider Cian Uijtdebroeks, was hit by a car during a training ride and subsequently hospitalised, though he escaped without serious injuries. The 22-year-old Belgian cyclist reported the incident himself via Instagram, where he posted a photo showing him in a hospital bed.
"Today a car came out of its parking spot, crossed the road and hit me hard during training. Watch out for vulnerable road users! Otherwise, you're playing with lives!" Uijtdebroeks wrote on his Instagram.
Despite the severity of the collision, Uijtdebroeks did not suffer any fractures and was discharged from the hospital, early in the evening. His team Visma | Lease a Bike, later confirmed the news.
"Cian was indeed involved in a training accident. Fortunately, no fractures were found at the hospital and he was allowed to go home later that evening. He did suffer some bruises and abrasions. We will have to wait and see how his recovery progresses in the coming days," the team stated.
The accident is at an unfortunate time for Uijtdebroeks, who was planning to make his return to competition, after injury, at the Belgian Championships in Binche (20 June). His last race appearance came at Tour du Doubs on 20 April, where he finished 22nd.
The  Belgian has already faced health challenges this season and throughout his career. In March 2025, he was forced to abandon Tirreno-Adriatico when a recurring back injury flared up, This was an issue Uijtdebroeks experienced last year, which prompted adjustments to his bike position over the winter.
With the Belgian Championships so close now, it remains uncertain whether Uijtdebroeks will recover in time to participate in the event as originally planned.
