EF Education-EasyPost have confirmed the signing of 2020 Giro d’Italia winner Tao Geoghegan Hart. The 31-year-old Briton has joined the American team after three difficult seasons racing in the colours of Lidl-Trek.

His time with the German team was blighted by a series of injuries and illnesses after his terrible 2023 crash at the Giro d'Italia.

“After a difficult journey on the road back from injury, Tao is healthy and excited to get stuck into the work that made him a Grand Tour champion,” EF said, when announcing his arrival at the US team for 2027.

This season, Geoghegan Hart racked up 32 race days, finishing his season in Italy at the Coppa Bernocchi. His most recent victory came back in 2023, before his Giro crash, at the Tour of the Alps, where he won the GC and two stages.

“On a personal level, it’s really about trying to refind the condition I had in my best years – the ceiling of that, the journey towards it, and the end results themselves,” Geoghegan Hart said on his move.

“It’s an exciting prospect to come into a new environment with new ideas, new perspectives, and different people.”

Geoghegan Hart marks EF’s first confirmed signing ahead of the 2027 campaign. 22-year-old Gavin Sherry has been promoted from the EF Education-Aevolo development team.

Geoghegan Hart's arrival follows the recent confirmation of Richard Carapaz's departure to NSN.

He becomes the third British rider currently confirmed in EF’s roster for 2027 alongside Noah Hobbs and Max Walker. James Shaw has departed for Geoghegan Hart’s former employers Netcompany-Ineos, while Lukas Nerurkar’s current contract with the team expires at the end of this season.

EF Pro Cycling founder and CEO Jonathan Vaughters believes that the American team could be the perfect home for the Briton to rediscover his best form.

“Tao is an incredibly gifted rider with the perseverance and stubbornness to come back from a horrific crash injury,” Vaughters said.

“While the fruits of his work to come back from injury have not blossomed yet, we are taking the bet that 2027 will be the year that this happens.”
