Jorgenson breaks collarbone at Amstel and is ruled out of Ardennes Classics
Team Visma | Lease a Bike has shared a medical update on Matteo Jorgenson after the American crashed in the final of the Amstel Gold Race.

The 26-year-old rider went down with 41 kilometres remaining while trying to avoid Kévin Vauquelin (Ineos Grenadiers), who had crashed just ahead of him just as the duo were starting to go clear as part of a selective group. Jorgenson stayed on the ground for some time but appeared conscious as medical staff attended to him.
He was taken for further assessment to the hospital, where it was confirmed that he had broken his collarbone.
“Matteo broke his collarbone in his crash during the Amstel Gold Race,” the team said in a statement. “As a result, he will not start in the Flèche Wallonne or Liège Bastogne Liège.”
After the race, sports director Frans Maassen had already expressed his disappointment. “We had high expectations for today. Everyone could see that Matteo was in great form, so it’s frustrating that his race had to end like this,” he told Sporza.
Since joining the team in 2024, Jorgenson’s spring had been closely tied to the Flemish Classics, highlighted by victory at Dwars door Vlaanderen. This year, however, the 26-year-old opted for a different approach, shifting his focus to the Ardennes Classics, a campaign that has now come to an abrupt end after just one race.
After the spring, Matteo Jorgenson is set to head to the Tour de France for the third year in a row alongside Jonas Vingegaard, where they are expected to take on Tadej Pogačar in a bid to prevent him from claiming a fifth Tour title.
