Koch overcomes Visma numbers to deny Vos emotional Paris-Roubaix win
Franziska Koch (FDJ United-Suez) delivered the standout ride of her career to win Paris Roubaix Femmes, beating Marianne Vos in a head-to-head sprint and breaking the numerical advantage of Team Visma | Lease a Bike. Vos’ teammate Pauline Ferrand-Prévot finished third after leading out the sprint.

Vos had returned to racing this week following the loss of her father and came close to a highly emotional victory, but the 25-year-old Koch proved just too strong in the closing metres.
The 143 kilometre race from Denain to Roubaix only came to life deep into the cobbled sectors. An early breakaway was caught well before the decisive phase, with the main contenders still together approaching Mons-en-Pévèle.
The race split shortly afterwards. Ferrand-Prévot attacked on a slight rise after the cobbled sector, with Vos, Koch and Blanka Vas (Team SD Worx-Protime) the only riders able to follow. The group of four quickly opened a gap that would decide the race.
Koch increased the pressure later on the cobbles, dropping Vas and briefly distancing Ferrand-Prévot. The winner of last year's edition managed to return, keeping the Visma duo in control at the front heading towards Carrefour de l'Arbre.
Vos tested her rivals there but held back, aware of the tactical advantage. Behind them, a crash involving Lucinda Brand after contact with a spectator ended any late chase.
Inside the final five kilometres, Koch attacked again. Vos responded immediately and stayed on her wheel, while Ferrand-Prévot had to close a small gap before the trio reached Roubaix together.
On the track, Ferrand-Prévot led out for Vos, setting up what looked like a textbook finish. The sprint opened early, with Koch and Vos going side by side in the final straight. Koch held her line and edged ahead at the line, denying Vos what had seemed within reach.
