Alessio Magagnotti (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) sprinted to victory on a rainy stage 2 of the Lidl Deutschland Tour in Offenbach an der Queich.

The 19-year-old Italian outkicked Paul Magnier (Soudal Quick-Step) and Iúri Leitão (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA) to claim his first professional victory.

Louis Barré (Visma | Lease a Bike) finished safely inside the peloton to defend the race lead. The Frenchman leads Isaac del Toro (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) by six seconds, with Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek) in third at 18 seconds.

How it unfolded

Ole Theiler (REMBE | rad-net), Ben Felix Jochum (Lotto Kern-Haus Outlet Montabau), and Alvaro Sagrado (Storck-MRW Bau) formed the breakaway.

With the flat profile of the stage and a number of determined teams, the breakaway trio's chances of causing an upset were extremely slim, and so it proved to be as they were caught with around 30km remaining.

Del Toro picked up three bonus seconds at the intermediate sprint with his teammate Nils Politt (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) taking two and Mathias Vacek (Lidl-Trek) taking one.

Inside the final 10km, the sprinters' teams swarmed to the front, seizing control and setting up for the expected sprint finish.
