Majority of Vuelta teams reportedly in favour of neutralising stage 21

A majority of teams at the Vuelta a España are reportedly in favour of neutralising the final stage of the Vuelta a España on Sunday in Granada.
According to AS journalist Dani Miranda, “the majority of the teams, though not 100%, are in favour of neutralising” the final stage of the 2026 Vuelta to Granada, arguing about the “dangerousness” of the circuit.
However, reports have also stated that the Vuelta organisation and the UCI are opposed to the proposition, but there are discussions on the table about neutralising the final lap, in addition to other potential options.
Stage 21 features a finishing circuit in the city of Granada, which will be tackled four times, with some concerns about the technical nature of the loop and difficulties of navigating it in a large group.
The circuit does feature a partially cobbled climb of around 2.1km with an average gradient of 6.6%, with the final ascent coming 7.8km from the finish, which is likely to reduce the number of riders in contention for the finish.
The conditions expected on Sunday are expected to remain dry and hot in Granada, avoiding the risks of a wet surface on a technical circuit.
The situation remains fluid, with a resolution expected to be announced by the race organisers following the conclusion of stage 20.
