NSN launch scholarship in memory of Finlay Tarling

NSN Cycling Team has launched a scholarship in memory of Finlay Tarling, who died aged 19 while racing for the team’s development squad during stage eight of the Tour of Portugal on 14 August.

The Finlay Tarling Talent Development Scholarship will be awarded annually to a Welsh rider aged between 15 and 20, with one recipient chosen each year for at least the next five years. The rider will receive equipment and coaching and will attend the development team's training camps alongside its riders and staff.

Tarling spent two years with NSN, riding for the development team while training around the WorldTour squad.

"In the two years Fin was with us, he had a tremendous impact on both the Devo and WorldTour teams as both a rider and, most importantly, as a teammate and friend," NSN general manager Kjell Carlström said in the team's press release. "Fin will always be with us in our hearts and memories, so we felt it fitting to create this scholarship in his name so that his passion for the sport could be carried on through the next generation of Welsh cycling talent."

Development team manager Tim Elverson will choose the recipient alongside Welsh Cycling and Tarling's parents, Michael and Dawn. The first will be named in the coming months and will join the team's opening training camp in February 2027.

"Anyone who knew Fin knew that he loved nothing more than riding his bike," Elverson said. "He was determined to turn pro and make it to the WorldTour, something that was on the cards in the near future for Fin in our team. When we thought about how best to honour Fin, we knew that he would love nothing more than to see others follow in his footsteps."

A GoFundMe has also been set up, with proceeds going to the Welsh cycling community.
