Pogacar's Mont Ventoux bike sells for €163,430 at Sotheby's auction

Tadej Pogačar's Colnago Y1Rs Stripped Black bike, ridden on stage 16 to Mont Ventoux during his 2025 Tour de France triumph, has sold for €163,430 at a Sotheby's auction, almost ten times its upper estimated value of €17,157.

The distinctive carbon-black machine first captured attention on 22 July 2025, when Pogačar lined up for the Tour's 16th stage in Montpellier wearing the yellow jersey.

It was a stage where the World Champion and race leader withstood multiple attacks from Jonas Vingegaard before symbolically gapping the Dane by two seconds to finish 5th on the stage behind breakaway winner Valentin Paret-Peintre.

"For the hill-climb time trial to Peyragudes a few days earlier, he had used a Colnago Y1Rs in a raw black-and-white livery, without the UCI colours, marking the first public appearance of this custom machine," notes the auction description.

The final design was completed during a rest day, with the addition of the signature World Champion accents in red, green, yellow, and blue alongside black to create what became known as the Stripped Black edition. This version made its competitive debut as Pogačar faced battle with Jonas Vingegaard on the slopes of Mont Ventoux.

Following his Tour victory, Pogačar used this bike for his subsequent major wins, including the World Championships, European Championships, and a record fifth consecutive Il Lombardia.

Sotheby's describes the Colnago Y1Rs Stripped Black as "a unique and historically significant racing machine" that appeals to "the most passionate and discerning collectors," a characterisation underlined by the final sale price of €163,430 after fierce bidding before the auction closed on December 5.
