Primoz Roglic forced to change Vuelta plans after being hit by car
Primoz Roglic has been forced to change his racing schedule after being struck by a car during a recent training ride. The Slovenian will miss both the Clásica San Sebastián and the Vuelta a Burgos, leaving him with a shortened path towards his biggest objective of the season, the Vuelta a España.

Roglič confirmed the incident in an Instagram post on Friday, revealing that he had been “hit by a car a few days ago” while training. He did not provide further details about the collision or the extent of his injuries, but confirmed that he would miss both Spanish races.
“I won’t be participating in San Sebastián and in Burgos unfortunately,” Roglič wrote. “Not the best scenario, but it’s life.”
The Slovenian was due to make his first race appearance in more than a month at the Clásica San Sebastián on Saturday. After a long altitude training block, the race would have offered an important first indication of his form.
He was then scheduled to ride the Vuelta a Burgos from 4 to 8 August, where the hilly stages would have provided another chance to sharpen up before the Vuelta.
That programme has now been scrapped. Roglič will focus on his recovery instead, with the Vuelta a España, starting in Monaco on 22 August, still the main target.
“Now it’s all systems go towards La Vuelta,” he added. “We work and hope things will turn around.”
The timing of the incident is far from ideal. Roglič last raced at the Slovenian national championships at the end of June, where he won the individual time trial and finished fourth in the road race. His most recent appearance for Red Bull-Bora- Hansgrohe came at the Tour de Suisse, where he finished eighth overall, more than nine minutes behind winner Tadej Pogačar.
The crash adds another complication to a season in which Roglič has yet to find his best form. His fifth place at Tirreno- Adriatico remains his best result so far.
With San Sebastián and Burgos now removed from his schedule, Roglič is set to head into the Vuelta without another competitive race in his legs. That leaves him little opportunity to assess his form or regain race rhythm before the start in Monaco.
He will nevertheless arrive with a place in cycling history within reach. Roglič has won the Vuelta four times, matching Roberto Heras’ record, and a fifth victory would make him the race’s most successful rider outright.
