Reusser's TT domination continues as World Champion adds record-equalling fourth European ITT

Marlen Reusser yet again proved why she is one of, if not, the best time trialist's in the women's peloton as the Swiss rider added a fourth European ITT jersey to her illustrious collection after recently adding the rainbow jersey in the discipline to her collection last week, in Rwanda.

In store for the Elite Women in the individual time trial at the European Road Championships was a 24-kilometre effort against the clock, entailing 216 metres of elevation. With the World Championships over the previous weekend, it was time to see what the riders, such as the recently crowned World Champion in the ITT, Marlen Reusser (Switzerland), could do.

With the riders getting underway just after mid-day local time in Loriol-sur-Drôme, France, riders were exerting themselves in the effort to become European champion, with Anna Henderson (Britain) setting one of the finest efforts of the day.

As the riders continued to roll out on their efforts, some top contenders for the race victory were underway, including the current World Champion, Reusser.

Mie Bjørndal Ottestad had 'temporarily' moved into the hotseat, setting a time of 33:56, but it was looking unlikely to secure the victory as Reusser was motoring. The Swiss was well clear of the competition through time check 2, over 14 seconds to be precise, as the Swiss star was well and truly in the zone. That flying effort continued for Reusser as through time check 3, the Swiss soared, 49 seconds clear of Mie Bjørndal Ottestad (Norway), which remained the case at the line.

The final podium of the day was as followed: Marlen Reusser (Switzerland) 1st, Mie Bjørndal Ottestad (Norway) 2nd, and Mischa Bredewold (Netherlands) 3rd.

Reusser now equals Ellen van Dijk (Netherlands) for the most ITT victories (4) with the victory today.
