Spanish champion Romeo commits long-term future to Movistar: 'I want to bring victories to the team'
A major boost for the Spanish team as the 22-year-old Spanish star is set to remain in the colours of Movistar for many seasons to come.

Iván Romeo has signed a long-term contract extension with Movistar that will see him remain with the Spanish side through 2030.
The Spanish champion Romeo has established himself as one of Movistar’s most important riders since signing for the team in 2023.
Romeo has picked up six professional victories, with his first coming at the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana in February 2025, and quickly followed this up by winning stage 3 of the Critérium du Dauphiné from the breakaway.
In the process, Romeo wore the race leader’s yellow jersey. His third victory came last June, when the 22-year-old soloed to a dominant victory at the Spanish road race championships in Granada.
2026 has been a positive season too, winning a stage and the GC at the Vuelta a Andalucia before adding a stage at O Gran Camiño.
Romeo is set to ride the Tour Auvergne - Rhône-Alpes (Critérium du Dauphiné) this June, in preparation for his second Tour de France, which kicks off on July 4 in his home country.
“Extending my contract with Movistar Team until 2030 gives me great peace of mind, knowing that I'll be able to continue progressing and improving as I have been doing in previous years, which is ultimately what I've always wanted,” said Romeo in an official statement.
“For the coming years, it sounds a bit cliché, but I always say that I want to be a little better each day, a little better the following year. I've never had a year where I've regressed; I've always been very demanding of myself and of being a little better,” added Romeo.
Still only 22, Romeo has plenty of scope to improve, and that is an exciting prospect for the Spanish team.
“In the end, it gets harder each time; I'm already at a higher level, but I think that if I continue with this, this upward trajectory will lead me to compete in high-level races, and I believe it's the step I need to take: to be consistent, bring victories to the team, and be a reliable asset,” added Romeo.
