Stage 1 brings an immediate test for Tadej Pogačar and the other Vuelta contenders. Below, you can find the full start order and times for the opening time trial.

The 9.4 kilometre course is short, fast and highly technical, with the race taking place entirely within the Principality of Monaco. Riders start beside the Casino de Monte Carlo before tackling a twisting route that incorporates several sections of the famous Formula 1 circuit. The course passes Larvotto Beach, Port Hercule and Stade Louis II before finishing on Boulevard Albert 1er, at the traditional finish line of the Monaco Grand Prix.

With numerous corners, hairpins, roundabouts and tunnels packed into less than ten kilometres, bike handling and acceleration will be almost as important as pure power.

Diego Uriarte will be the first rider down the start ramp at 16:17 CET. Riders will then leave at one minute intervals, with stage favourites like Ethan Hayter (Soudal Quicl-Step), Stefan Küng (Tudor), Iván Romeo (Movistar) and Wout van Aert (Visma | Lease a Bike) spread across the final part of the start order.

Hayter starts at 19:08, with Küng due off at 18:17 and Romeo beginning his effort at 19:18. Van Aert rolls down the ramp at 19:17, while general classification contenders Felix Gall (Decathlon CMA CGM), Oscar Onley (Netcompancy Ineos) and Mattias Skjelmose (Lidl-Trek) start at 17:44, 17:42 and 17:17 respectively. Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates-XRG), the major favourites to win the Vuelta, will begin at 19:19.

The final rider, Primož Roglič (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe), is due to start at 19:20, with the last finisher expected at approximately 19:30.
