Tadej Pogacar fine revoked after Liège–Bastogne–Liège podium controversy
Tadej Pogacar was initially handed a hefty fine following his victory at Liège–Bastogne–Liège, adding an unexpected twist to an otherwise dominant performance. The Slovenian rider received a penalty of 5,000 Swiss francs for what officials described as the “incorrect placement of advertising on the world champion jersey during the podium ceremony.”

However, the situation has since taken a turn. According to UAE Team Emirates, speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the fine has now been officially revoked, meaning Tadej Pogačar will not be required to pay the penalty. The sanction was later also removed from the jury report.
Neither the race jury nor the UCI provided detailed clarification on the exact infringement at the time of the decision. While strict regulations apply to branding and jersey presentation during podium ceremonies, it remains unclear what specifically prompted the sanction in the first place.
The size of the fine had already raised eyebrows, as penalties of this magnitude are rarely imposed for similar violations. The incident sparked considerable debate on social media, with many questioning both the reasoning and the severity of the punishment.
Earlier speculation, including from cycling platform La Flamme Rouge, suggested the issue may have been related to the positioning of the team sponsor logo in relation to the rainbow bands on Pogačar’s world champion jersey, with spacing potentially not meeting official guidelines.
