UAE dismantled by stage 2 crash: Adam Yates also abandons Giro
Adam Yates (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) will not take to the start of stage 3 of the Giro d’Italia following the effects of the major crash that took place on stage 2.

The British rider was one of the 30 or so riders who crashed with 23km remaining, an incident which forced the stage to be neutralised for 3km.
Yates was visibly bloodied by the crash, but the British rider was able to remount, finish the stage, and share a smile at the end.
Finishing 170th on the stage, 13:46 behind the front group, Yates' GC aspirations were all but dashed, but checks overnight have concluded that he will not be able to continue the Giro altogether.
Both Marc Soler and Jay Vine were unable to finish the stage, and with the withdrawal of Yates overnight, UAE Team Emirates-XRG have five riders remaining in the race, leaving the Emirati team decimated.
“Adam Yates suffered a heavy abrasions and a laceration to his left ear. He was initially assessed on site for concussion, and cleared to continue, but subsequently he has shown delayed concussive symptoms. He will not take the start of stage 3 today,” said Dr. Adrian Rotunno (Medical Director) in an official statement.
Result: Giro d'Italia stage 2
