Video: Chiara Consonni lashes out in anger after Giro d’Italia Women crash and gets penalized
Chiara Consonni has been fined by the race jury at the Giro d’Italia Women following an incident during stage three, where the Italian rider reacted angrily after being caught up in a crash involving Thalita de Jong.

The crash happened on the approach to the final climb of the day, briefly disrupting the peloton at a tense point in the race. De Jong, riding for Human Powered Health, went down and initially remained on the road while recovering from the fall. Consonni was also held up in the incident and tried to get moving again quickly, but her bike had become tangled with De Jong’s.
What followed drew the attention of the commissaires. Clearly frustrated, Consonni shouted at De Jong before forcefully freeing her bike and continuing the stage. The jury later judged the Canyon//SRAM rider’s conduct to be unacceptable.
In the daily jury report, Consonni was handed a fine of 100 Swiss francs for “inappropriate or improper behaviour” and for causing damage to the image of cycling.
De Jong was able to remount and finish the stage. She crossed the line in Buja in 136th place, arriving in a large group around twelve minutes behind stage winner Elisa Balsamo.
