Remco Evenepoel (Belgium) suffered a crash while leading the elite men’s road race at the European Championships.

The Belgian had followed an attack by Giulio Ciccone (Italy) on the third ascent of the Možjanca climb with 36km remaining, before countering the Italian.

However, Evenepoel crashed as he rounded the corner at the top of the climb, while Ciccone was able to avoid falling alongside the Belgian.

Evenepoel was able to quickly remount and, with the help of his teammates, was able to rejoin Ciccone and the rest of the leading group before launching another attack of his own with 32km remaining.
