The Dutch team have encountered an unwelcome problem as the heat intensifies at the Tour de France according to Sporza.

Visma-Lease a Bike has been dealt an untimely logistical setback at the Tour de France after the air conditioning on their team bus broke down, according to Sporza, just as riders prepare to face some of the hottest conditions of this year's race.

With temperatures forecast to reach as high as 37°C at the finish of Tuesday's fourth stage in Foix, keeping riders cool has become a crucial part of teams' race-day operations.

The extreme conditions have already prompted the UCI to introduce temporary measures to help riders cope with the heat, including relaxing feeding regulations so teams can distribute additional bottles and supplies more efficiently during stages.

Across the peloton, an array of methods have been implemented, including using ice vests, socks, and baths to help riders deal with the difficult temperatures. A functioning, air-conditioned team bus also plays an important role, providing a cool environment pre and post stage.

Sporza reports that repairs are currently underway on the team's primary bus, but its second bus, used during the Grand Départ in Barcelona, had only recently returned to the team's service course in the Netherlands, leaving Visma-Lease a Bike with limited options for Tuesday's stage.

The heat has already taken its toll on the Tour peloton. After Monday's stage, riders outlined the difficulty of the conditions, with Tom Pidcock (Pinarello-Q36.5) describing the battle for bidons as a "warzone."

Having stayed overnight close to the start, the Visma riders can remain at their hotel longer before travelling to the start area, limiting the time they would otherwise have spent in the stricken bus while repairs continue.

The Dutch team won the team time trial on the opening stage, which saw Jonas Vingegaard (Visma | Lease a Bike) take his first yellow jersey at the race since winning overall in 2023. After Tadej Pogačar's (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) victory on stage 3, Vingegaard now sits second overall, level on time with the World Champion heading into stage 4.
