Biography of pro cyclist Andrea Vendrame
Andrea Vendrame is one of the Italian peloton's most reliable opportunists: a rider who reads a race well, commits to the move and finishes it off when the chance comes. He is not a pure sprinter or a pure climber, but his blend of punch, endurance and racecraft makes him dangerous on broken terrain and in long-range attacks.
That profile has made him a valued breakaway specialist and a popular figure in the bunch, capable of turning a hard, attritional day into a headline result.
Early life and rise
Born in the Veneto, a heartland of Italian cycling, Vendrame came up through the country's strong amateur ranks before turning professional in 2017 with Androni Giocattoli. His punchy, aggressive style suited the Italian Professional Continental scene, where he picked up early wins and stage-race placings that earned him a move to the WorldTour with AG2R La Mondiale in 2019.
Grand Tour stage wins and breakaway success
Vendrame's signature results have come at his home Grand Tour. He won stage 12 of the 2021 Giro d'Italia, outsprinting his breakaway companions to take a first Grand Tour victory, and added a second Giro stage win in 2024. Beyond the Giro, he has collected results across the season. A WorldTour stage victory at Tirreno-Adriatico in March 2025 underlined that he remained a winner at the highest level, and he combined with teammate Paul Lapeira for a win at the Tour du Limousin later that summer.
Rider profile: strengths, style, and characteristics
Vendrame is a classic aggressive all-rounder. He has the endurance to survive long, hard days, a turn of speed that lets him win from small groups, and the tactical sense to pick the right move. He thrives on hilly, unpredictable terrain rather than flat sprints or high mountains, which makes him a natural fit for the breakaway game and for hardman one-day races. His combativity has also made him a useful road captain and teammate.
Personal life
Vendrame is rooted in the Veneto cycling culture he grew up in and is known in the bunch as an approachable, hard-working professional. He tends to let his racing do the talking rather than seeking the spotlight off the bike.
