Biography of pro cyclist Jan Christen
Jan Christen is a young Swiss racing cyclist whose all-round ability and attacking instinct have made him one of the most closely watched talents in the sport. Aggressive by nature and comfortable on climbs, in time trials and on punchy finishes, he is being carefully developed within UAE Team Emirates-XRG as a rider for the future.
His multidisciplinary background, spanning the road, mountain biking and cyclo-cross, has given him an unusually broad set of skills and bike-handling, the kind of foundation that often produces complete professional racers.
Early life and rise in Switzerland
Christen comes from a cycling family, his older brother Fabio also racing as a professional. As a junior he was a standout across multiple disciplines, collecting European and World-level titles on the road and proving himself in cyclo-cross and mountain biking too. That versatility marked him out as an exceptional prospect from an early age.
UAE Team Emirates-XRG moved quickly to secure him, and he joined the team early, ahead of his original schedule, on a long-term contract that underlined his potential.
Breakthrough results and first Grand Tour
Christen has already shown he can win at the highest level, taking overall victory at the AlUla Tour and other early-season races, along with strong performances at one-week stage races where his climbing and attacking style come to the fore. In 2026 he rode his first Grand Tour at the Giro d'Italia, briefly wearing the white jersey as a leading young rider in the opening days, an early sign of his Grand Tour promise.
That debut, raced alongside his brother Fabio in the peloton, marked an important step in his development from precocious talent to genuine Grand Tour rider.
Rider profile: strengths, style, and characteristics
Christen is an aggressive, versatile all-rounder. He climbs well, time trials capably and races with an attacking instinct that he is still learning to harness, often eager to go on the offensive. His broad off-road background gives him excellent handling and adaptability, and his youth means there is still considerable upside as he matures. He projects as a future stage-race contender and one-day threat.

Christen hails from Switzerland and is part of a cycling family, sharing the professional ranks with his older brother Fabio. Still in his early twenties, he has spoken about balancing his natural attacking urges with the discipline required to fulfil his potential at the top level.
