Mischa Bredewold is one of the most complete riders in the women's peloton, equally dangerous on a punchy classics finish and in a stage-race general classification. As a key member of SD Worx-Protime, she combines leadership opportunities with a willingness to work for the team's other stars.
Her story is also one of remarkable resilience. The fact that she races at the top level at all, let alone wins major titles, is a testament to a recovery that few would have believed possible.
Early life and a near-career-ending crash
Bredewold came through the Dutch junior ranks, but her path to the top was nearly cut short before it began. While training for the Dutch junior team ahead of the 2018 UCI Road World Championships, she was hit by a truck, suffering three broken vertebrae, six broken ribs, a fractured pelvis and a serious brain injury. Against the odds, she made a full recovery and returned to racing, a comeback that frames everything she has since achieved.
The 2023 European Championship breakthrough
Bredewold's defining moment came at the 2023 UEC Road European Championships in Drenthe, on home Dutch roads. She launched a roughly 10-kilometre solo move to take the continental title, becoming the youngest ever women's European road race champion. She finished ahead of compatriot Lorena Wiebes and reigning world champion Lotte Kopecky, proof she could beat the very best.
Classics and stage-race wins
Since joining SD Worx in 2023, Bredewold has become a regular winner. She has taken the Classic Lorient Agglomération three times (2023, 2024 and 2025) and won the prestigious Amstel Gold Race in 2025. In 2026 she added overall victory at the Itzulia Women, complete with stage wins, confirming that her range now extends to winning week-long stage races outright.
