Fresh attacking racing: Ineos Grenadiers 2025 verdict

As part of our 2025 season review series, we examine how Ineos Grenadiers navigated the 2025 campaign.

Ineos

Expectations

Ineos Grenadiers will always have high expectations to perform in the biggest races, whether that be competing for GC success at the Grand Tours or fighting for strong results in the Classics. The team’s GC success since their inception naturally creates a high standard which the team aims to reach, though this has become increasingly harder in recent years with the likes of UAE Team Emirates-XRG.

The Verdict

Wins: 28
UCI Ranking: 8
The Verdict: 7/10

Ineos Grenadiers enjoyed a solid 2025 season, with the British outfit continuing to shake up their attitude to racing with an attacking approach, switching up on their traditional methods. This approach worked for the team in many senses, as they picked up plenty of impressive wins, including stages at each of the Grand Tours.

From a GC perspective, Ineos continued to struggle to reach the heights of the 2010s, with Egan Bernal’s 7th place at the Giro d’Italia being the best result. However, 6 stage wins across the 3 Grand Tours impressive haul and reflects a strong showing for the British team.

Ineos’s performances in the monuments were also solid, particularly because of Filippo Ganna. The Italian finished 2nd to Mathieu van der Poel in a thrilling edition of Milan-San Remo and was also the team’s best finisher at the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix with 8th and 13th place finishes, respectively. Axel Laurance and Egan Bernal also achieved 8th-place finishes at Liège-Bastogne-Liège and Il Lombardia.

Overall, despite the lack of a rider competing for victories in Grand Tours, the British team's approach to the season reaped good success and considering adjusted expectations, it was a good campaign.

Most valuable rider - Filippo Ganna

2025 brought highs and lows for Filippo Ganna, who still ended the year as Ineos’s top performer with 2,152.8 UCI points and 24th in the overall rankings.

After losing his Algarve stage win due to a route error, Ganna rebounded with the best spring of his career. He won Tirreno-Adriatico’s opening time trial, battled to 2nd overall, then starred in Milan-San Remo by finishing 2nd behind Van der Poel and ahead of Pogačar.

His strong form continued with 3rd at E3, 8th at Flanders and 13th at Roubaix before crashing out of the Tour de France with a concussion. Returning at the Vuelta, he won stage 18’s time trial and later took silver at both the World and European time trial championships.

Most successful race - Vuelta a España

Whilst the Ineos Grenadiers are no longer the Grand Tour powerhouse that they were in the 2010s, the team picked up their most stage wins since 2020.

Two stage wins at the Tour de France for Thymen Arensman in the Alps were extremely impressive, but the lack of a top 10 GC finish for only the third time since Bradley Wiggins won the yellow jersey in 2012 is significant.

The Vuelta a España saw the team claim three stage victories, and whilst there was also no top 10 finish in GC, the trio of successes came in a variety of ways. A sprint win for Ben Turner, a time trial success for Filippo Ganna, and Egan Bernal’s triumph on a reduced stage all represented a strong team performance. Michał Kwiatkowski, Magnus Sheffield and Bob Jungels all had combative races too, with the latter two earning top 10 stage positions.

Best transfer - Samuel Watson

It has been a strong debut year for several Ineos recruits in 2025. Victor Langellotti made history as the first Monegasque to win a WorldTour race with a stage victory and 2nd overall at the Tour de Pologne, while Caleb Ewan and Bob Jungels also added stage wins before mid-season. Axel Laurance impressed with consistency, finishing 8th at Liège–Bastogne–Liège and featuring in three Tour de France stages.

Sam Watson, however, emerged as the standout of the newcomers. The young Brit claimed four victories, beginning with a breakthrough prologue win at the Tour de Romandie, his first WorldTour success. He followed it up with both a stage and the overall title at the 4 Jours de Dunkerque, confirming his growing maturity as a stage racer.

National glory came next as he powered to the British road race championship with a composed and tactical ride. Watson carried that form into his first Tour de France, where he impressed with consistency, and ended his season with podium finishes at the Lidl Deutschland Tour and the Lloyds Tour of Britain.
