LIVE: Tour de France 2026 Stage 6: Will the mighty Tourmalet create the first major gaps?
Tour de France - Stage 6
The sixth stage of the 2026 Tour de France is the first true GC test of the race on Thursday, with the 186.2km mountain stage from Pau to Gavarnie-Gèdre. Pau hosts the Tour de France start for the 68th time, with the peloton heading south through Lourdes and Bagnères-de-Bigorre towards Arreau at the foot of the Col d'Aspin (12km at 6.5%). The Col du Tourmalet (17.2km at 7.3%) is the day's HC climb, cresting at 2,115m for the Souvenir Jacques Goddet. A 22km descent to Luz-Saint-Sauveur leads to the closing 18.7km ascent to Gavarnie-Gèdre, a first-time Tour finish at the entrance to the Cirque de Gavarnie UNESCO World Heritage site. The 4,100m of climbing across the day makes it the hardest early-Tour Pyrenean stage in years and the first day the GC contenders can put time into each other. Stage 6 is set to get underway at 12:40 CEST and will finish at around 17:30 CEST. Follow it live on Domestique.
