Igor Arrieta leaves UAE Team Emirates-XRG for Lidl-Trek
The Spaniard has signed a three-year deal that will keep him at Lidl-Trek until the end of 2029.

Igor Arrieta will join Lidl-Trek in 2027, bringing an end to his time with UAE Team Emirates-XRG. The Spaniard has signed a contract that will keep at Lidl-Trek until the end of 2029.
“In the last few years, I have improved every year, and I think I can continue to grow at Lidl-Trek,” Arrieta said in a statement released by Lidl-Trek, where his teammates will include compatriot Juan Ayuso.
“I’m really excited to ride with big talents like Skjelmose, Pedersen, Ciccone and all the guys on the team.”
The son of former Movistar sports director José Luis, Arrieta turned pro with Kern Pharma in 2021 before moving to the WorldTour with UAE in 2024. He claimed his first pro win the following year at Prueba Villafranca de Ordizia.
In May, Arrieta landed a dramatic victory ahead of Afonso Eulalio on stage 5 of the Giro d’Italia, despite crashing and going off-course in the rain-soaked finale in Potenza. The 23-year-old went on to finish 19th overall in Rome.
A strong climber, Arrieta has also finished third at the AlUla Tour, eighth at Itzulia Basque Country and fifth at the Tour de Luxembourg this season.
“Stage 5 of this year’s Giro d’Italia was one of the most dramatic finales to the race and Igor’s victory in Potenza impressed us and highlighted not only his ability and racing prowess but also his future star power,” Lidl-Trek CEO Andy Schleck said. “We believe Igor has a bright career ahead of him and we are looking forward to working with him and seeing him develop.”
Arrieta is the sixth new signing to be announced by Lidl-Trek for 2027. Felix Gall and Gregor Mühlberger join from Decathlon CMA CGM, Georg Zimmerman moves from Lotto-Intermarché and Jordan Jegat arrives from TotalEnergies, while Héctor Álvárez will be promoted from the development team.
Lidl-Trek’s roster and management have undergone considerable flux over the past year, coinciding with Lidl taking ownership over the team’s WorldTour licence.
Juan Ayuso and Derek Gee-West joined as GC leaders last winter, while Andy Schleck was surprisingly promoted to the role of CEO in the summer, replacing longstanding general manager Luca Guercilena. On September 1, Grisha Niermann formally joined Lidl-Trek as chief sporting officer after a long association with Visma Lease a Bike.
