Jaume Guardeño undergoes successful surgery as recovery continues
Caja Rural Seguros-RGA have issued a new update on Jaume Guardeño, confirming that the 23-year-old has undergone successful surgery as he continues his recovery from the serious injuries sustained in a training crash earlier this year.

Guardeño was operated on by Dr Andreu Gabarrós Canals, a prominent Barcelona based neurosurgeon, before being transferred back to the Guttmann Clinic to continue his rehabilitation.
“Jaume Guardeño has been successfully operated on by Dr Andreu Gabarrós Canals, a renowned neurosurgeon from Barcelona, in order to continue with his recovery process,” Caja Rural Seguros-RGA said in a statement on social media.
“He has now been transferred back to the Guttmann Clinic, where the rehabilitation team remains closely involved in his neurorehabilitation process.”
The latest update comes more than five months after Guardeño was involved in a serious training accident on 31 March. The Spaniard was taken by air ambulance to Parc Taulí Hospital in Sabadell following a collision with a vehicle and was initially treated in intensive care.
In May, Guardeño was moved to the Guttmann Clinic in Barcelona, a specialist centre for neurorehabilitation and the treatment of serious neurological injuries.
The team have continued to release updates on his condition while allowing Guardeño and his family privacy during what remains a lengthy recovery process.
Caja Rural Seguros-RGA also thanked the medical professionals involved in his treatment and reiterated their support for the rider and those close to him.
“We would like to thank the medical teams for the tremendous work they are doing,” the team said. “Everyone at Caja Rural Seguros-RGA continues to send all our support and affection to Jaume, as well as to his family and those around him, as we accompany them through this difficult period.”
Guardeño had enjoyed an encouraging start to the season before the accident. Just days before the crash, he completed the Volta a Catalunya in 29th overall.
The Alicante rider joined Caja Rural Seguro- RGA’s senior team full time in 2024 after progressing through the organisation’s development programme and has since established himself as one of the squad’s promising young climbers.
