Movistar setback: Romeo and Ferguson both miss their Tour de France's
Movistar Team will be without Iván Romeo and Cat Ferguson at the 2026 Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes. The Spanish-British couple will miss their respective races, with Romeo still recovering from illness and Ferguson sidelined by two ankle fractures.

Romeo’s Tour plans disrupted by illness
Iván Romeo will miss both the 2026 Tour de France and the Spanish National Championships as he continues his recovery from a flu like illness.
The 22-year-old from Valladolid was among several Movistar riders affected by an outbreak at the Tour Auvergne Rhône Alpes in June. Romeo and teammate Jefferson Cepeda were forced to abandon the race, while Diego Pescador withdrew before the stage 3 team time trial.
Romeo had been expected to play an important role in Movistar’s Tour de France squad, with the team’s general classification ambitions set to centre on Cian Uijtdebroeks.
The reigning Spanish road champion has continued to establish himself as one of the most promising young riders in the peloton. He won stage 3 of the 2025 Critérium du Dauphiné with a solo attack and repeated the feat on stage 3 of O Gran Camiño in 2026. He also claimed overall victory at the 2026 Ruta del Sol.
Ferguson begins recovery after Giro crash
Cat Ferguson will also miss the Tour de France Femmes after Movistar confirmed that she sustained two ankle fractures in her stage 1 crash at the 2026 Giro d’Italia Women.
The 20-year-old British rider has won three races for Movistar in 2026: the Trofeo Llucmajor, a stage of the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana Femenina and the Navarra Women’s Elite Classic.
Ferguson joined Movistar on a full time basis at the start of 2025, having first raced for the team as a stagiaire in 2024.
Movistar said she will require several weeks of recovery to allow the fractures and her other injuries to heal. She will consequently miss both the British National Championships and the Tour de France Femmes.
