New footage shows Pogacar was not the only one caught out on treacherous Vuelta descent

Tadej Pogacar’s dramatic near miss on stage 6 of the Vuelta a España was far from the only incident on the technical descent that followed the gravel climb of Puerto El Bartolo.

The world champion had provided one of the most striking moments of the stage when he briefly left the road while descending at high speed. Pogačar somehow managed to keep his bike upright and quickly rejoined Enric Mas at the front of the race, before going on to beat the Spaniard in a two up sprint for the stage victory.

Further footage from the descent, however, showed just how difficult the twisting roads were proving for others in the race convoy.

Lorenzo Rota of Lotto-Intermarché was among the riders caught out, leaving the road and ending up in the roadside terrain. Gianmarco Garofoli of Soudal Quick-Step suffered a remarkably similar moment as Pogačar, also running wide and heading off the asphalt before continuing.

It was not only the riders who struggled. A Škoda vehicle from the race organisation was also filmed sliding through one of the corners, underlining just how treacherous the descent had become.
