Video: Close call as deer crosses Tour de Hongrie peloton
There was an unexpected close call for the peloton during stage 2 of the Tour de Hongrie involving a deer.

An ill-timed moment in the early part of the stage occurred when a deer darted towards the road just as the peloton was passing. The deer lost its balance and skidded across the road, leaving riders from Bahrain-Victorious and, in particular, a Soudal Quick-Step rider at the front of the peloton with almost no time to react.
Thankfully, the riders did manage to react quickly, taking evasive action to avoid an incident with the deer, which refound its balance and reached the other side of the road.
Tim Merlier (Soudal Quick-Step) sprinted to victory on the opening stage in Békéscsaba, his third victory in five race days so far in 2026, and the Belgian team will be looking to put the deer incident behind them quickly as they look to add another stage win in Paks.
