'I still had legs for an attack' – Vingegaard powers clear to extend Catalunya lead
Jonas Vingegaard credits exceptional team performance after attacking on the final climb to Queralt.

Jonas Vingegaard extended his overall advantage at the Volta a Catalunya with a commanding stage victory, demonstrating his fine 2026 season form, which has continued after his Paris-Nice domination.
The Danish rider benefited from a well-coordinated team effort that controlled the race from start to finish. After a strong breakaway was established early, Vingegaard's teammates executed the plan flawlessly.
"We got a good breakaway and we had Bart in the break and then Menno and Bruno, they controlled it really well for a long, long time," Vingegaard explained in his post-race interview. "And then Jørgen took over on the steep climb, so the whole team did an amazing job today."
Despite sustained pressure from the Red Bull team on the descent, Vingegaard positioned himself perfectly for the final climb. The decisive moment came when only six riders remained in contention, and the Visma | Lease a Bike leader felt confident in his capabilities, dropping the others from his wheel.
"From there it was a battle between six guys," Vingegaard recalled. "I still had legs for an attack, and that's what I did. At that moment, I was able to drop the other guys from my wheel and it was a good day."
The victory marks another impressive display of his dominance at the race after his win on stage 5, and Vingegaard was full of praise for his supporting cast.
"I'm happy with the win, and really, I want to thank my teammates today. They did an amazing job," he said.
With the general classification now firmly in his grasp, holding a 1:22 advantage over Lenny Martinez, Vingegaard appears focused on consolidating rather than chasing further stage wins. Tomorrow's four-lap circuit stage presents different characteristics, though the leader acknowledged it may not suit his strengths.
"Maybe it's not the kind of stage that suits me the best," Vingegaard admitted. "The main focus will for sure be just to keep the leader's jersey tomorrow. That will be the main focus. If you can win another stage, that would be nice, but that's not going to be the main goal."
Result: Volta Catalunya stage 6
