Jarno Widar stuns Pidcock to win final stage and overall Tour of Guangxi title

Jarno Widar (Lotto-Intermaché) completed a memorable double at the 2026 Tour of Guangxi, winning the final stage and securing the overall title. The Belgian outsmarted Tom Pidcock (Pinarello-Q36.5) in an explosive uphill finale, with Louis Barré (Visma | Lease a Bike) completing the stage podium.

The decisive moment came in the closing 400 metres, when Barré launched an attack that brought Widar and Pidcock clear of their rivals. Pidcock made his move with just 100 metres remaining, but Widar responded with a powerful counterattack to seal the stage victory.

Widar crossed the line six seconds ahead of Pidcock, with Barré finishing third at ten seconds. The result also handed the Belgian overall victory in the Chinese WorldTour race, rounding off his campaign in style.

How it unfolded

Four riders formed the early breakaway, with Jonas Rickaert (Alpecin-Premier Tech), Stan Dewulf (Decathlon CMA CGM), Laurenz Rex (Soudal Quick-Step) and Yutao Shen (China National Team) spending much of the day ahead of the peloton. Their advantage gradually disappeared as the pace increased, with UAE Team Emirates-XRG among the teams driving the chase.

The race exploded in the final kilometres. Rémy Rochas (Groupama-FDJ United) briefly opened a gap, before Kévin Vauquelin (Netcompany-Ineos) and Peter Øxenberg (Netcompany-Ineos) launched attacks of their own. None of those moves proved decisive, setting up a dramatic final few hundred metres.

Barré made the first serious move for victory with 400 metres remaining, dragging Widar and Pidcock clear of the chasing riders. Pidcock then accelerated inside the final 100 metres, but Widar had an answer. The Belgian surged past his British rival to claim the stage victory and secure his first-ever WorldTour overall title.
