Lipowitz solos to Slovenia victory and wraps up overall title

Florian Lipowitz (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) took a fine solo victory on the final day to wrap up the general classification of the 2026 Tour of Slovenia. The German went clear of the opposition with 9km remaining to take his second stage win of the race.

The final stage of the 2026 Tour of Slovenia began with a three-rider breakaway containing Fausto Masnada (MBH Bank CSB Telecom Fort), Louis Sutton and Veljko Stojnić (United Shipping). Masnada was the sole remaining rider of the break of the day and was caught with 27 kilometres to go.

It was once again Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe controlling the finale with significant numbers at the front of the peloton looking for another stage and defending the leader's jersey of Florian Lipowitz.

With 10 kilometres to go, a short, steep kicker saw riders attack. Sebastien Berwick (Caja Rural) was the main rider on the offensive, with Lipowitz latched straight onto his wheel. Not long after, Lipowitz counter-attacked and went solo over the top in the closing metres of the climb.

Lipowitz had a small gap over a group that included his teammate Giulio Pellizzari, Berwick, Alessandro Fancellu (MBH Bank CSB Telecome fort), Mats Wenzel (Equipo Kern Pharma), Jakob Omrzel (Bahrain Victorious) and Joel Nicolau (Caja Rural). More riders joined after and the cohesion stopped completely.

Lipowitz held his gap all the way to the line to secure back-to-back stage victories at the Tour of Slovenia, wrapping up the general classification of the Tour of Slovenia in style.

Lipowitz heads to the Tour de France, beginning on July 4, and he will be hoping the performances put him in good standing for another shot at the Tour de France podium.
