Brilliant Barré’s determined ride seals solo victory on Tour de Pologne stage 6
The Frenchman was victorious on the queen stage of the Tour de Pologne, marking the first victory of his professional career, as Christian Scaroni moves into the race lead.

Louis Barré (Visma | Lease a Bike) soloed to victory in Bukowina Tatrzańska on stage 6 of the Tour de Pologne.
Dubbed the queen stage of the 2026 edition, stage 6 featured over 2,700m of elevation gain and was always likely to be a pivotal day for the GC contenders.
The stage also included multiple ascents of the category one Ściana Bukovina climb, also known as the Bukovina wall, which served as a launchpad for action.
Barré, who had initially gone clear with Santiago Buitrago (Bahrain-Victorious) on the second ascent, dispatched the Colombian on the third time up the wall, with the selective chasing group bearing down on the duo around 10 seconds back.
The grit and determination of Barré on the steep gradients, combined with a stalemate from the chasers, saw the Frenchman re-extend his advantage to 25 seconds at the summit with 12.5km remaining.
As the road began to rise inside the final 4km, Barré remarkably was able to continue extending his advantage despite the firepower behind.
Meanwhile, Barré’s teammate and race leader Bart Lemmen (Visma | Lease a Bike) was on marking duty inside the closing kilometres, which helped Barré secure an impressive maiden professional victory.
Christian Scaroni (XDS Astana) led home the chasers for second, 10 seconds behind Barré, while Marco Brenner (Tudor) took third. Lemmen finished 12th at 15 seconds.
As a result, Scaroni moves into the yellow jersey, and now leads Barré by three seconds, with Lemmen in third at five seconds.
The 2026 Tour de Pologne will draw to a close on Sunday with a 12.5km time trial around Wieliczka, where the final destination of the yellow jersey will be decided.
How it unfolded
The queen stage kicked off at the Bukovina Resort with multiple attacks in the peloton, with some large groups initially breaking clear.
However, the contest to feature in the breakaway was intense, and it wasn’t until Walter Calzoni (Pinarello-Q36.5) managed to wriggle free that the race situation started to firmly establish itself.
Calzoni was joined by Mikkel Bjerg (UAE Team Emirates-XRG), before a strong group of seven riders also managed to bridge across to the front duo inside the opening 30km of the stage.
The group included Alessandro Borgo (Bahrain-Victorious), Steff Cras (Soudal Quick-Step), Valentin Madouas (Groupama-FDJ United), Henri-François Renard-Haquin (Picnic PostNL), Magnus Sheffield and Sam Watson (Netcompany-Ineos), and Luca Vergallito (Alpecin-Premier Tech).
On the first ascent of the category one Ściana Bukovina with 60km remaining, Bjerg was distanced from the breakaway and was shortly joined by Renard-Haquin, leaving seven riders at the head of the race as their advantage dwindled below the 30-second mark.
The next ascent saw the breakaway caught, and Santiago Buitrago (Bahrain-Victorious) launch a stinging attack. Louis Barré (Visma | Lease a Bike) was able to bridge across to the Colombian, forming a dangerous collaboration inside the final 40km.
Tobias Svarre (Uno-X Mobility) and Frederik Wandahl (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) broke clear from the peloton on the descent in an attempt to join the front duo, but were unsuccessful in their efforts.
This left Buitrago and Barré to try and hold off the peloton with a slender advantage of under 20 seconds inside the final 30km and one remaining ascent of the Bukovina wall.
